Liminal Wombats burrowing beyond the threshold

Wombats are cool. They use their bums to crush the skulls of their enemies when they try to get in to their burrows, their burrows are extensive networks that can be used by other animals during bushfires, the classic cube poo, and they actually live in burrows with groups up to 10.

What if the wombats burrows were actually tunnels that transcend reality and allow travel through the threshold of the universes.

Enter the liminal wombat. These creatures exist just outside our periphery, between the the barrier of the real and the dream. Like the eye floaters they exist in our vitreous humours. They require immense concentration to perceive. Once you are able to fully perceive them, they appear before you.

They are ambivalent to the goings on of the physical realm, however they are willing to parlay and guide travelers through their burrows leading them through the pathways between the realms.

The tunnels take many forms. They can range from cave systems, to hallways, to underground river systems.

YOLO: Crystal Fantasy is a great show with great ideas

I owe a lot to the adult swim show YOLO: Crystal Fantasy. At least in terms of my recent roleplaying hijinks. The name this blog was inspired by the show.

the bush wombat shaman

It is a surreal trip through a whimsical and magical world that is full of Australian references and mannerisms that I just adore. I'm sure it was a combination of the wombats on the family farm and this show that made me embrace the a very whimsy outback style adventure for my b/x games.

YOLO: Crystal Fantasy really inspired me to just lean right in to the surreal and whimsy. Also riffing in the OSR discord has led to the creation of creatures such as the Cosmic Dingo and Liminal Wombats. So far the Cosmic Dingo is the only creature I have fleshed out.

The Bindi People and bush wizards are also something I am going to incorporate in to my games.

Hello World

The OSR blogosphere is a pretty happening place. I've been fortunate enough to find a group in my local ruralish Australian part of the world where I can run some BX games and I wanted to be able to share my projects to the void.
